A metamorphic perspective for growth of landlocked developing countries
DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10391108
PDFView Article
A landlocked country is generally disadvantaged in its goal of development. Higher costs of transportation for international movements are fairly higher both for imports and exports, putting international trade if tangible goods on the back foot. The article delves into these factors, analyzing the determinants of Porters home diamond model and its variants. Finally the author depart from the concepts of the home diamond model and propose an important role of the Government policies in enhancing competitive advantage of the landlocked nation from a perspective of a multiple diamond model to address the question “ If there are inorganic ways to achieve higher prosperity rates for Landlocked developing countries?” The author believes that Governments of such Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC) miss out on an opportunity to transform to create an intellectual landscape and this perspective can be used to mitigate the selective factor disadvantage of ‘landlockedness’ in such nations. To make a comparative study, the author takes into consideration the determinants of Porter's Home's diamond model, the double diamond model of Rugman, and the multiple diamond model of Cartwright, Role of Multinational Enterprises by Dunning, and others and proposes a new paradigm understanding by synthesizing the multiple diamond model into what is a metamorphic perspective a nation can adopt. The author hopes this perspective shall give a platform for future research to add value.

The Nigeria Agriculture Promotion Policy (APP) was implemented between 2016 and 2020 with the goal of increasing agricultural productivity and income for smallholder farmers. This study evaluated the impact of the APP on the productivity of smallholder oil palm farmers in Edo State. A total of 165 oil palm farmers from 11 local government areas (LGAs) in three (3) senatorial districts in Edo State were surveyed using a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires and descriptive statistics were used to analyse the data. The findings of the study indicate that the APP was effective in improving the productivity of oil palm farmers in terms of technology adoption and yield/output performance. Additionally, the study found that the policy increased the income of smallholder oil palm farmers by 56.9% from NGN383,314.39 in 2015 to NGN597,392.17 in 2022. The study identified some limitations of the APP, such as the lack of regular training or skill development programs for farmers and the limited access to loan facilities to acquire more efficient oil palm production kits and machinery. The findings of this study have important implications for the future development of agricultural policies in Nigeria. The APP has shown to be an effective policy in improving the productivity of smallholder oil palm farmers.

DECISION-MAKING IN ERP SOLUTION IN SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA: EVALUATION CRITERIA, MARKET CONTEXT, AND THE ROLE OF LOCAL IMPLEMENTERS
DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19626804
PDFView Article

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a central role in the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, making the selection of an appropriate ERP solution strategically important for productivity, resource control, and managerial decision-making. According to the European Commission, SMEs in Bosnia and Herzegovina account for 62.7% of total value added and 69.1% of total employment in the non-financial business economy, while OECD and European Commission reports indicate that the country’s digital transformation is progressing more slowly than the European Union average and that institutional support for business digitalization remains limited. In this context, ERP selection is not merely a technical issue, but also an organizational, financial, and developmental decision.

This paper aims to develop an academically grounded decision-making framework for ERP selection in SMEs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with particular emphasis on the role of local implementers and on the criteria linking software functionality, project delivery, and the long-term sustainability of the system. The paper adopts a conceptual, review-based, and exploratory approach, combining a review of the relevant ERP literature, an analysis of institutional sources on SMEs and digital transformation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a documentary analysis of publicly available information on the domestic ERP market and its implementers.

The findings suggest that, in the Bosnian context, functional coverage is a necessary but insufficient basis for rational ERP selection. Equally important are the quality of localization, implementers’ track records in similar industries, the availability of consulting support, training quality, transparent estimates of total cost of ownership, integration planning, data migration, and support for managerial reporting. On this basis, the paper proposes a decision model structured around five groups of criteria and outlines a conceptual AHP–TOPSIS framework for ranking ERP alternatives.

Improving Transaction Monitoring Through Data Reconciliation and Financial Data Quality Analytics
PDFView Article

Financial crime prevention should also deal with transaction monitoring, however, the quality of the data available to the transaction monitoring is typically insufficient, inconsistent or of low quality. In the present paper the importance of Data Reconciliation Tools and Financial Data Quality Analytics to achieve high quality and accuracy of the transaction monitoring systems is discussed. It talks about the common causes of data differences among the core banking systems, payment processors, and the external reporting systems, and how these differences can result in a false positive, missed alerts, as well as inefficient investigations. The study suggests a formal design, namely automatic data reconciliation, and real-time data quality examination. Matched data with enhanced quality scoring systems can help the financial institutions to achieve better accuracy in the generation of alerts, thereby minimizing operational noise. The paper also discusses how more complicated analytics (e.g., anomaly detection and pattern recognition) can be used to leverage quality data that has been reconciled to improve detection. It is offered with a conceptual implementation strategy on how these practices can be deeply embedded in the existing compliance systems by institutions without necessarily having to do a re-engineering of the system in its entirety. The findings suggest that the combination of the reconciliation processes, and the current data quality analytics can be used to improve the trustworthiness of the results of the transaction monitoring. This is not only efficient in enhancing regulatory compliance, but also operational efficiency and risk detection is more efficient in the financial systems today.
