Abstract:
This research paper explores the transformative role of drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), in prehospital emergency medical services (EMS). As technology advances, drones are increasingly recognized for their potential to enhance emergency response capabilities, particularly in disaster scenarios and remote locations. The study conducts a comprehensive literature review to evaluate the innovations introduced by drone technology and their implications for patient care and operational efficiency. Key findings indicate that drones can significantly reduce response times by delivering essential medical supplies, such as Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and blood products, faster than traditional ground ambulance services. Additionally, drones enhance situational awareness by providing real-time aerial footage to emergency responders, allowing for more effective resource allocation during emergencies. However, the research also identifies critical challenges, including regulatory barriers, limited payload capacities, and the need for substantial initial investments. The implications of these findings suggest that while drone technology holds great promise for improving EMS, a robust regulatory framework and further research into operational protocols are essential for successful integration. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge surrounding the application of drones in healthcare, advocating for their adoption as a strategic tool in enhancing emergency medical responses.
