Abstract:
This review explores the antioxidant efficacy of traditional herbs compared to fermented foods, highlighting their roles in enhancing antioxidant defense mechanisms. Antioxidants are essential in combating oxidative stress, which contributes to various chronic diseases and aging processes. Traditional herbs such as turmeric and green tea, known for their potent antioxidant properties, have been extensively studied for their health benefits. Similarly, fermented foods like yogurt and kimchi offer notable antioxidant effects through the fermentation process, which increases the availability of bioactive compounds. This comparative analysis evaluates the antioxidant potency, bioavailability, and health implications of both traditional herbs and fermented foods. We also discuss the potential synergistic effects of combining these dietary sources to optimize antioxidant defense. The review identifies research gaps and suggests directions for future studies to better understand the full potential of these dietary interventions in disease prevention and health promotion.
