Abstract:
This article explores the profound influence of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on business performance within India's maritime and logistics sectors, emphasizing the regulatory framework, exemplary case studies, benefits, and challenges. Focusing on two leading companies, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) and Mahindra Logistics, it examines their CSR initiatives and how they have integrated responsible business practices into their operations. The regulatory framework, primarily driven by the Companies Act of 2013, has made CSR not only a compliance requirement but a strategic imperative. It mandates certain companies to allocate a portion of their profits for CSR activities, demonstrating India's commitment to responsible business conduct. Exemplifying the benefits of CSR, APSEZ and Mahindra Logistics have established themselves as role models in the industry. Their CSR initiatives have led to enhanced reputation, operational efficiency, investor attraction, and employee satisfaction. These initiatives, including healthcare, education, and environmental sustainability, have not only improved the well-being of local communities but also positively impacted the companies' overall performance. However, CSR integration is not without its challenges. Compliance and accurate reporting can be administratively complex, and companies must carefully balance profitability with CSR investments. In conclusion, the integration of CSR into India's maritime and logistics industries is a strategic necessity. APSEZ, Mahindra Logistics, and other exemplary companies showcase the transformative power of CSR, contributing to a brighter, more responsible future for the sectors, society, and aligning with global sustainability goals.
