In this specific piece of writing, we will use the term "literary studies" to refer to all aspects of research, analysis, or interpretation that are devoted to literature. This includes both academic and non-academic research. According to one school of thinking, data analysis in literary studies should integrate classified and verbal indexing, strive for thesaurus management, and use electronic data processing. This school of thought has been around for quite some time. An explanation of the concept of facet analysis as it relates to literary studies, as well as a discussion of the Modern Language Association (MLA) as a contemporary example of an organization that employs that approach, will be included in this article. In addition, the report will make some brief observations on the widespread limitations of data analysis in this field.
