This article analysed international observers as social actors in Nnamdi Kanu’s agitation for the secession of Biafra. The main objectives of the study were to determine the social actors involved, identify the discursive strategies deployed and discuss the social actors extensively. Van Leeuwen’s representation of social actors’ approach to critical discourse analysis (CDA) served as the framework. The descriptive design was adopted. Nnamdi Kanu’s broadcasts in 2020-2021, a period marked by consistent and increased agitation for Biafra’s secession, were purposively selected. Five of these broadcasts (three in 2020 and two in 2021) were used because of their subject matter. The broadcasts were downloaded from YouTube. The data were subjected to critical discourse analysis. The international social actors identified in the study are Afrrica, the United Nation Organisation, the Great Britain and the Europeans. The social actors and their social practices were excluded through suppression and backgrounding; or included via nomination, activation, collectivisation, association and disassociation. The study concludes that Nnamdi Kanu’s agitation for the secession of Biafra is characterised with the representation of international observers as social actors who are either in support or against his goal. The study concludes that international observers have been represented as social actors who are against the secession of Biafra. Thus, the study recommends that linguistic studies on the use of code-mixing and switching as inclusion strategies by Nnamdi Kanu should be investigated.
