Plant extracts a potential anticancer toolInvestigations have been carried out at assessing the effects of arecanut extract against a battery of human and veterinary isolates. The aqueous extract of Areca catechu L was found to be inhibiting the growth and propagation of several bacteria , avian viruses and fungi including Streptococcus mutans an oral dental pathogen , New castle Disease virus and Candida albicans. The antioxidant studies of plant extracts namely arecanut extract showed positive results. The results are sufficient by itself to validate the use of several plant extracts to scavenge free radicals thus promoting and supplementing anticancer therapy. Arecanut extract was seen to be effective in reducing inflammation induced in mice by oedematogenic agents like dextran, carageenan and formalin.Arecanut extract was able able to prevent the initiation of tissue injury seen in gastric mucosa and subsequent gastric ulceration. Oral administration of plant extracts like arecanut provided gastric cytoprotection. Areca catechu L has been seen to be of value in the management of male sexual disorders and studies were documented to establish aphrodisiac potential of plant extract. The whole chapter provides scientific rationale for the traditional use of plants in ameliorating the suffering of cancer patients and offers an adjuvant role in anticancer therapy by supplementing the existing treatment regimen in combating Cancer.

Chitosan and its Significant Properties: A ReviewChitin a precursor to chitosan is the penultimate versatile polymer thereafter the β-linked sugar polymer; they are reflective sugars, reactive and with non-brittle properties present in the cellular walls of fungi and in the shells of crustaceans and other insects. Chitosan and their formulations are non toxic to human and biotic sorroundings (GRAS) with good characteristics such adaptability and blendable, non-toxicity and financially effective. The properties of this amine linked biocomposite expose their numerous biotechnological applications as enlisted. Search for renewability of their supply is a biotechnological topnotch to meet with their over-rising demand in the today global market.

Lipases, Catalytic Cycle and Sources: A ReviewEnzymes are essential tools with a wide range of uses in the biotechnology sector. Lipases are widely distributed enzymes that have significant physiological importance and economic potential. At the oil-water interface, they catalyze the hydrolysis of triacylglycerols to liberate free fatty acids and glycerol. Lipases, in contrast to esterases, do not hydrolyze dissolved substrates in the main fluid; instead, they are activated only when adsorbed to an oil–water interface. It has been reported that microbes, plants, and animals all have lipases. The yield of lipases from plants are relatively low; sometimes it could be cheaper than other sources as it does not require fermentation techniques and unique in substrate specificity/ selectivity.
