UNLEASHING THE SECRETS OF SLITHERING SERPENTS
PDFView Article
Snakes are fascinating creatures which have evolved millions of years ago. They are adapted to various habitats and ecological niches. They belong to the suborder Serpentes and are characterized by their elongated, cylindrical bodies, limbless structure, and unique feeding habits. Features like flexible jaws, heat-sensing organs, and the presence of fangs for delivering venom make them successful predators. Venomous and non-venomous snakes make up the two primary categories into which snakes are generally classified. Via specialized glands, venomous snakes generate and inject venom, which can be a complex blend of proteins, peptides, and enzymes. These elements are essential for digesting and immobilizing prey. A snake bite can cause a variety of symptoms, such as pain, swelling, bruises, and in more extreme situations, tissue necrosis or paralysis. Managing a snake bite requires immediate first aid techniques, such as immobilizing the afflicted limb, applying a constricting band, and obtaining medical assistance. We must be cautious of what should be done and what should not be done if someone is bitten by a snake. We must also be aware about our surroundings and should remove risk factors that favor hiding places for snakes. Many diagnostic tools based on immunology are present which can help in the detection of snake venom. They identify the specific type of venom and guide the appropriate treatment. There are many myths about snakes and we must make sure not to trust the myth blindly and should know the truth about them. It's true snake venom may be dangerous but it is found to have several medicinal properties including the development of medications for conditions such as heart disease and chronic pain. The main treatment for snakebite envenomation is antivenom, a specialized medication intended to neutralize snake venom. Managing snakebites also requires supportive therapy, which includes wound care, pain control, and ongoing observation for any consequences. In conclusion, snakes possess unique evolutionary adaptations and features, including venomous capabilities, that have contributed to their success as a species. Understanding the composition of snake venom, the signs and management of snakebites, and the potential benefits of snake venom are critical in promoting effective treatment and conservation efforts for these remarkable reptiles.

Applications and the Risks of Nanoparticles in the Healthcare Sector and Industries
PDFView Article
This review paper is focused on the application of nanoparticles in the health sectors, and industries and the risks of nanomaterials in workers and employers in workplaces. Nanotechnology is a facilitating science and new technology that mainly changes matters at a nanosized scale. Nanotechnology and sciences are used for disease diagnosis and screening, drug delivery systems, and health monitoring. Nanoparticles have a great significant purpose in novel drug development due to their very small size and large surface area. As it is broadly used in the industries and health sectors, there is a great risk of exposure in the workers to the nanomaterial in their workplaces through skin contact, inhalation, or ingestion and particularly in powder form can cause the risk of explosion especially particulate nanometer, whereas non-nano sized same substances that not have this effects. The workers and employers should be aware of the potential hazards of nanomaterials in their workplaces, and employers should be taken their appropriate measures to control the exposure, especially in a developing country like Africa.

INFILTRATION ANALYSIS IN FLOODPLAIN IRRIGATED SOILS of ABUJA FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY, NIGERIA
PDFView Article
The soils in the study area underwent an analysis of their infiltration rate utilizing a double ring infiltrometer with the falling head method, as outlined by Mbagwu (1997) and Oku (2012). Linear plots were constructed, depicting cumulative infiltration and equilibrium infiltration rates against time for three distinct soil units along the catena. The findings indicated consistently high instantaneous infiltration rates, ranging from 8.0 to 21.4 cm hr-1. Notably, the upper slope unit exhibited a chaotic increase and decrease in the first 4 hours, while the middle and lower slopes displayed similar behavior just after 3 hours. The upper slope soils, initially drier in terms of moisture content, demonstrated a higher and rapid infiltration rate during the early hours of the process. Conversely, soils in the middle slope, already saturated, exhibited a slower rate of infiltration. The infiltration equilibrium varied across the three-slope segments. At the upper slope, equilibrium was achieved at a mean cumulative infiltration value of 110 cm. In the middle slope segment, equilibrium was reached much earlier, with a mean cumulative infiltration value of 44Qcm. Similarly, at the lower slope segment, infiltration rate reached equilibrium at a mean cumulative infiltration value of 64Qcm. Factors influencing infiltration included soil texture, bulk density, topography, and moisture content. These elements collectively contributed to the observed variations in infiltration behavior along the catena.

The potential valorization of iron ore Jerissa and Tamra as iron fertilizers in agronomy
PDFView Article
Iron chlorosis is a relevant and limitant nutrional disorder in plants grown in alkaline soils. Application of synthetic iron chelates is the most solution to correct this abiotic stress. Nowadays the use of these recalcitrant chelating agents is under discussion and more sustainable ways are being researched to be used as natural raw materials-based iron fertilizers. This study deals with particle analysis of iron oxides and carbonates from Jerissa and Tamra iron mines, and their preliminary potential for agricultural valorization as iron fertilizers will be assessed. Physic and chemical characterization of both iron ores will be performed by using FTIR, BET, SEM, EDX, XR and AAS analytical techniques. Batch experiments were arranged by interacting diluted solutions of ultrapure water, chelating agents (EDDS, HBED, IDHA), low molecular weight organic acids – LMWOA (citrate) and Humic substances (HS) with both tested iron ores to determine those soluble and extractable iron fractions. Batch experiments showed that Citrate, EDDS, IDHA, HS and HBED diluted solutions were able to extract large amounts of iron from both tested iron ores. High extractability rate of iron ore by Citrate and HBED confirm the potential valorization of those iron ore as mineral fertilizers.

Applying Sustainability in National Parks Management: Balancing Public and Private Interests Using a Sustainable Market Orientated Model in Zambia
PDFView Article
The application of sustainable development (SD) in organisational strategy has been debated for over 20 years. There is much social and political support for sustainability, especially in the management of game parks for the benefit of the public (through government agencies) and the private sector who are the providers of capital, but very little research to provide empirical evidence on how has been made in this space. This paper reports on the first empirical research into the application of Sustainable Market Oriented (SMO) game park management in Zambia, a conceptual merging of the principles of sustainable development and market orientation, to be applied in strategic management of natural resources. The research scope in the 20 Zambian national game parks dotted all around the country. The findings confirm the value of (SMO) in management of game where the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model appears to be the panacea to sustainable management of national game parks. The model takes into account the balance in managing the environmental, social, and economic orientations in game parks using privately owned resources and dilemmas inherent in reducing public sector funding for game parks. Evidence points to the fact that game parks are better managed by private entities while being owned by government for the benefit of the local communities and the general citizenry at large. The research explores how park managers are addressing some of these issues, such as incorporating the local community.
